Born Richard Tucker in 1966 on the vibrant streets of Staten Island, New York, I have evolved into Baruti Tucker, an artist whose journey spans the dynamic landscapes of New York City and the Southeast Region. From the lively galleries of New York to the mural-adorned walls of Augusta, Georgia, my finger-painted canvases and murals serve as visual poetry, weaving narratives inspired by Africans in the diaspora, the wonders of nature, and the intricate beauty of anatomy. My artistic journey began at the age of 12 when I first picked up a pencil to sketch comic book characters alongside a childhood companion. This early passion paved the way for formal education at the Haney Institute, where I delved into the world of art illustration, and later at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FITNYC). It was there that I gained the skills to wield a brush or my own fingertips and I embarked on a professional journey, contributing as an illustrator for L & H Greeting Cards in the bustling heart of New York. My connection with the artistic community in New York City grew as I engaged in the noble task of imparting the beauty of art to young minds. Teaching art to elementary, high school children, and young adults became a calling that fueled my creative spirit. My works found a home in various galleries casting ripples of color and expression throughout the city. In 2010, Augusta, Georgia, became the next canvas for my artistic endeavors. Rooted in the community, I taught visual arts at C.H. Terrell Academy and Jessye Norman School of the Arts and guest-taught at the historic Paine College, extending my knowledge and passion to the next generation. Beyond formal education, I've actively participated in community organizations, founding the mentoring program S.T.R.O.N.G. ROOTS in 1999, which resumed its programming in Augusta, nurturing the minds and spirits of young men. As a muralist, I've left my mark on the streets and internal walls of educational facilities and community centers of the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) and the vibrant city of New York. The walls speak the language of my fingertips, narrating stories of resilience, heritage, and interconnectedness. In addition to my role as an educator and muralist, I am currently the Adjunct Art Professor at the Historic Paine College here in Augusta, GA; I share my artistic insights through private classes, shaping the artistic journeys of students of all ages. Married to Denise Tucker, I am also the Co-Founder/Owner and Creative Director of Humanitree House, LLC, a creative haven where artistic expression and community engagement converge. In January 2014, I authored the publication "Metatalah," further expanding my artistic legacy beyond the canvas. I reside in Augusta Georgia with my wife MaChere Denise Tucker and I am the Father of three children Tahirah, Song & Sol and two Bonus Children, Symphoni & Jordan and Five Grandchildren, Ze'Lyn, Aria, Jordan, Amir & Ayli.
